CURRICULUM - Positive Behaviour Strategy - PBS

The purpose of the Glen Huon PBS committee is to develop and implement school-wide positive behaviour support in order to improve behaviour and explicitly teach social skills. It is our intention that by encouraging ownership by staff, students and the community, this will develop a school culture which is positive and consistent and based on a common language which is used by all. Our ultimate intended purpose will lead to higher educational outcomes.

Improving student academic and behaviour outcomes is about ensuring all students have access to the most effective and accurately implemented instructional and behavioural practices and interventions possible. PBS provides an operational framework for achieving these outcomes.

Our school culture embraces our values and expectations and makes very explicit the standard of behaviour we expect at Glen Huon. We have very clear and agreed upon consequences for inappropriate behaviour. We have a school brochure which provides very clear information for Parents about PBS at Glen Huon and our Bullying Prevention Policy. PBS is a whole school approach which aims to reduce behavioural issues and promote a positive, inclusive, harmonious school culture.

Improving student academic and behaviour outcomes is about ensuring that all students have access to the most effective and accurately implemented instructional and behavioural practices and interventions possible.

PBS builds a continuum of supports for staff and students. At each level (or tier) there is an emphasis on outcomes in the form of agreed expectations for student and staff behaviour, and data to guide decision-making about what practices should be put in place to support student learning and social behaviour. There is equal emphasis on the system supports that will be needed to build fluency with new or revised practice among all teachers and staff within the school.
