Blue Wren Cafe Information and Menu

The Blue Wren Cafe is open Wednesday to Friday only. THESE ARE NEW DAYS.

Welcome to the Glen Huon Primary School Canteen the Blue Wren Cafe.

The canteen is wholly owned and operated by our school P & C Assoc. We currently provide recess and lunch items including drinks, ice-creams and healthy snacks. The canteen has one paid employee, Lenka , in the capacity of Canteen Manager and we rely on the help of volunteers to keep running costs to a minimum.

Traffic Lights

The Traffic Light system is a mandatory Department of Education and Training initiative to help reduce childhood obesity rates in Western Australia. The policy sets out whether a food and drink should be eaten most of the time, some of the time or only eaten outside of school with parental approval. To make this clear the policy uses a traffic light system similar to that used in other states where foods and drinks are categorised as Green, Amber or Red. This policy applies to all public school canteens and food services in place of a canteen. This includes;

  • School canteens managed by P & C's.
  • School Canteens contracted by the school.
  • Breakfast programs provided at the school.
  • Any onsite vending machines available to students.
  • Food services provided by local shops in place of a canteen service.
  • Classroom rewards.
  • School camps.
  • School excursions.

The consumption of green foods and drinks should be encouraged and need to make up at least 60% of the menu with amber foods having limited availability.

If you look at our menu you will see that we currently have approximately 84% green items. All of the foods prepared in the canteen are required to have recipes and ingredients approved by the Canteen Association and copies are submitted to the School Principal each year for audit. * All lunch orders must be written on a lunch bag. PLEASE NO STAPLES, STICKY TAPE OR ENVELOPES.

Please make sure the order and your child's name and classroom number are written onto the bag.

PLEASE NOTE: NO CREDIT is provided in the Cafe.
* Reheating of Food: Due to Health and Safety Regulations we are unable to reheat food brought from home. We thank you for your understanding in this matter.
* Special Dietary Requirements: Please speak to Julie, we will always try to help.

Our cafe; team is always in need of more helpers to lighten the load a little. If you have some time to spare, we would love to welcome you on board with our friendly team. Drop in for a coffee and see us or contact Lenka. Even if you only have a couple of hours to spare, whether it is once a week, once a month or once a term, it would be greatly appreciated by many.
